چکیده

The NRL developed tight-binding method has been very successful in describing the properties of nonmagnetic elemental metals and semiconductors with accuracy comparable to first-principles methods. In this article we discuss extensions of the method to magnetic systems. We first show that the method correctly predicts equilibrium ground state structures, elastic constants, and phonon frequencies in ferromagnetic iron. We also show how the magnetic calculations can be extended to noncollinear systems, focusing on the electronic behavior of iron. © 2001 American Institute of Physics. @DOI: 10.1063/1.1356031#

Calculation for Energy of (111) Surfaces of Palladium in Tight Binding Model

In this work calculation of energetics of transition metal surfaces is presented. The tight-binding model is employed in order to calculate the energetics. The tight-binding basis set is limited to d orbitals which are valid for elements at the end of transition metals series. In our analysis we concentrated on electronic effects at temperature T=0 K, this means that no entropic term will be pr...

Combining Tight-binding and Molecular dynamics Methods to Model the Behaviour of Metals in the Plastic Regime

Ultra-precision machining of metals, the breaking of nanowires under tensile stress and fracture of nanoscale materials are examples of technologically important processes which are both extremely difficult and costly to investigate experimentally. We describe a multiscale method for the simulation of such systems in which the energetically active region is modelled using a robust tight-binding...

Magnetic Calibration of Three-Axis Strapdown Magnetometers for Applications in Mems Attitude-Heading Reference Systems

In a strapdown magnetic compass, heading angle is estimated using the Earth's magnetic field measured by Three-Axis Magnetometers (TAM). However, due to several inevitable errors in the magnetic system, such as sensitivity errors, non-orthogonal and misalignment errors, hard iron and soft iron errors, measurement noises and local magnetic fields, there are large error between the magnetometers'...

Time-Dependent Real-Space Renormalization Group Method

In this paper, using the tight-binding model, we extend the real-space renormalization group method to time-dependent Hamiltonians. We drive the time-dependent recursion relations for the renormalized tight-binding Hamiltonian by decimating selective sites of lattice iteratively. The formalism is then used for the calculation of the local density of electronic states for a one dimensional quant...
